Medical Guideline Manager

Overview

At Firstline, we are fighting a medical challenge that the World Health Organization called a “tsunami that threatens to undo a century of medical progress” - antibiotic resistance. Our service transforms the way doctors diagnose and treat infectious disease by delivering localized, specialist clinical guidance. We’re currently working with over 400 healthcare organisations in 13 countries, ranging from small community hospitals, up to the WHO itself.

Role Responsibilities

• Interpret antibiotic prescribing guidelines that have been created by hospital-based antimicrobial stewardship committees.
• Adapt these guidelines for digital presentation, optimized for mobile devices.
• Help us to continually improve customer support following launch.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor of Science degree with a focus on microbiology, pharmacology, clinical biochemistry or related field.
• Strong problem solving skills. Medical guidelines can be a puzzle to untangle - if you’re good at that kind of thing, let us know!
• Attention to detail. Every job posting asks for this but when it comes to patient’s health we really mean it!
• Fluency in spoken and written French is an asset.

Requirements

• The core of our team is based on the West Coast, so you will need good overlap with Pacific Time Zone working hours.
• This is a full-time position and we typically work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, though your schedule will be flexible and managed by you.
• A requirement of this role is that you will need to be resident, with permission to work, in Canada. Your spoken and written English must be entirely fluent.

Senior Rails Developer

We’re currently working with over 400 healthcare organisations in 13 countries, through clients ranging from small community hospitals, up to the WHO itself.

By joining our small development team your work will directly impact the evolution of our service, and improve the treatment of infectious diseases for many millions of people around the world.

The core of our platform is a Rails-based web application that provides a sophisticated clinical content management system with APIs servicing the mobile apps. You will be working to enhance and scale this web platform.

The kind of features you will be working on might include:

• Work to improve the UX for doctors managing clinical guidance
• Implementing a UI based on a high-fidelity mockups
• Working with our Clinical Content team to refine an internal workflow
• Write data transformations, such as a flexible parser to import infection report data
• Work with our mobile team to design a platform API for a new mobile feature

It is a varied role and you'll be working on the full application stack, right across the business, with real-world impact on healthcare.

HOW WE WORK

100% Remote
Our company is headquartered in Vancouver but we have always been a remote team, spread across North America. We talk frequently and use collaboration tools you will be familiar with like Slack, Zoom, Github.

Full Idea Lifecycle
You will be involved in the design process, working with the founders and others in the development team to scope and refine product and system concepts prior to development. Contributing thoughtfully to conversations in a positive, engaging manner should come easily to you.

Independent
We are a small, technically strong team. We communicate closely and enjoy working together. However, as this is a senior developer role, you will also be expected to be independent and self-sufficient. You will need to be capable of developing strong strategies to solve complex business challenges, communicating those to others, and then implementing your defined strategy.

Pace
Our success to date is founded on producing high-quality software that our users love. Yet as a young company in a rapidly evolving market we need to move very fast. We typically work in 3-week cycles with multiple disciplines on a project. We try not to sprint. We value considered, well-judged, pragmatic strategies that can be acted upon quickly. You will enjoy finding the right balance between shipping your very best work, and pragmatically meeting challenging schedules.

REQUIREMENTS

Technical Skills

• The nuts and bolts of skills you will use daily include: Ruby, Rails 7, JavaScript (Stimulus, Turbo), CSS, SQL, Redis.
• We have no minimum-experience requirement, but you likely have at least 3 years professionally working with Rails, and more years with web development technologies.
• Other helpful experience might include: react native, platforms such as AWS, Heroku, Digital Ocean, Google Cloud and Firebase products.

Time

• The core of our technical team are based around Vancouver, so you will need good overlap with PST working hours
• This is a full-time position
• We typically work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
• Your schedule will be flexible and managed by you
• Through July and August we work 4-day weeks

Language
Your spoken and written English must be entirely fluent.
